Why Hire a Professional Freelance Writer?

December 5, 2012 by Melody

Website content, newsletters, press releases, blogs, Facebook posts and tweets, users manuals and the fine print on the back of your bank statement — there is a writer behind all of that.

Every day, you encounter the written word. Thousands upon thousands of words. You hear these words on the radio, or see them play out on TV — somebody had to write those words too.

Sure, you can struggle through your company’s email campaign on your own to save a few bucks, or ask your already-overloaded executive assistant to write a press release for your company’s new product or service, but is cutting corners really paying off for you?

Take a minute to ask yourself: What are you good at? What are your skills and talents that got you the position you are in today?  You are an expert in your field or industry. You are good at what you do. Would you rely on a college intern or the cheapest laborer out there to do your job and do it well? I’m guessing the answer to that question begins with an N and ends in O.

Results matter. They matter in sales, they matter in medicine, they matter in the legal profession. And they matter in writing.

Why waste your time struggling to write copy for your website, or to put out your monthly newsletter when a professional freelance writer could do it for you — and do it better?

Hiring a freelance writer to assist you with your company’s writing needs won’t break your bank. In fact, you may even see a return on your investment. Yep – ROI matters too.

Why hire a freelancer when you could have somebody in-house do the work? Let’s face it, your employees are already overloaded. Times are tough. You can’t afford to higher another employee and cover the cost of benefits and insurance. Freelancing comes without the overhead. Pay a freelancer to do the work and you could save yourself thousands.

Most freelancers work on a per-word or per-project basis and bill after the work is done. Meaning they will negotiate a compensation plan with you prior to the work being completed and invoice you for it after the work has been submitted. You may pay $40-$50 for a 300-400 word article, but you aren’t paying any employment taxes on that. The tax burden falls on the shoulders of the freelancer.

Why you should hire me for your writing needs

I have both my bachelors and masters degrees in communications. I wasn’t the student who struggled for days or weeks to write a mediocre paper. I was the student who could crank out a 20-page research paper in a matter of hours, and get an A. I’m a writer. It’s what I do best. Always has been — just ask my mom. After finishing my graduate degree, I worked as a journalism teacher and later found myself dipping my toe into the realm of freelance work. Since 2009, I have worked as a full-time freelance writer.

My portfolio of work for small businesses and corporations in a wide variety of industries including: legal, not-for-profit, nutrition, fitness, tech, interior design, eye care, event planning and catering, real estate, auto, fiction writing, self-help, dating and more.

I pride myself on my ability to research and write about any given topic. I can quickly turn out work to meet any deadline. You are good at what you do — so am I. So let me help you by doing what I’m good at.

I’ve received numerous accolades for my work, most recently being told by the VP of Communications and Public Relations at a national organization that an article I wrote about #CharityTuesday was the best article written about the nationwide giving event. The day of giving received press from thousands of publications, websites and blogs. Projects I work on for clients have been ranked in the top 10 Google searches, and one client’s blog I write weekly is published by the Huffington Post. (Due to the nature of my blog writing contracts with clients, I can’t say which articles specifically, but they are out there!)

Do you have a writing project that needs to be completed? Let’s work together! Contact me with a description of the project and I will send you an estimate.
